1,534 colleagues cycle around the world 13 times together 🌍

1.534 employees in 403 teams of 72 employers jumped on their bikes during the Bike to Work Spring Challenge from 2 till 31 May. Together, they cycled an impressive 544,859.1 kilometres. They saved 95 tonnes of CO². The Spring Challenge is the biggest cycling challenge for company teams in Belgium. The Fietsersbond, organiser of the Spring Challenge, and Bosch eBike Systems, main sponsor, look back with satisfaction.

1.534 cycling colleagues in 403 teams from 72 companies and organisations challenged each other during the Spring Challenge to cycle as often as possible during 1 month, even through all kinds of weather, during weekends and on holidays. There were slightly more female participants than men. Each team member took on the challenge of cycling 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of all competition days from May 2 to May 31. The teams that succeeded in this, had a chance to win holiday vouchers at the finish.

Experienced home-work cyclists took along no fewer than 492 colleagues who were participating for the first time.  Employer Pfizer Manufacturing Belgium nv took the crown in terms of the number of participants, with no fewer than 54 teams and 217 participants.

Record number of kilometres cycled thanks to eBikes

The Spring Challenge created a sense of belonging and team spirit that resulted in a record number of 544,859.1 kilometres cycled, or 13.6 times around the globe. All the bike rides together saved 95,3 tonnes of CO². Approximately half of the participants were cycling with an eBike or speed pedelec, sometimes alternating with a non-electric bicycle. This explains, in addition to the motivation of the participants, the high number of kilometres cycled.

The winning teams

The winning teams not only achieved their cycling ambition, but also gave the most correct answer to the tiebreaker question: 'How many kilometres did all participants in the Spring Challenge cycle together? The winning teams are rewarded with holiday vouchers for a stay in Belgium.
