My enthusiasm encouraged colleagues to join me in cycling!
Ute Collier has been working in the communications department of GZA Ziekenhuizen in Antwerp for three months. Her contagious enthusiasm encouraged three close colleagues to join the Spring Challenge from 2 to 31 May. Team 'Het 5de Wiel' was born!
'Het 5de Wiel' is one of the 403 teams participating in the Spring Challenge from 2nd till 31st of May. The team consists of four sympathetic colleagues from the communication department: Ute, Astrid, Sebbe and Karen. Between two bike rides, we talked to team leader Ute and her team members Astrid and Sebbe.
Ute has recently become the sixth colleague in the communications department. The team name is the result of a mistake. Ute thought she was the fifth colleague to travel by bike, but that turned out to be four. With their joint ambition to cycle 75% of all days in the Spring Challenge, they immediately set the bar high. Fortunately the colleagues can count both trips to work and private trips towards the challenge. Currently their team percentage stands at 25%, but Ute, Sebbe, Astrid and Karen can still register a lot of rides from the past week via the Bike to Work platform to increase their percentage.
City bikes and e-bikes
Sebbe lives in Merksem and usually comes to work by bike, about half an hour's ride. He pedals a stylish city bike along a pleasant, varied cycle route along and over the canal into the city. Astrid lives in Brussels. In the morning, she cycles to the Central Station to take the train. In Antwerp-Berchem, she takes a Velo share bike to cycle the last miles to work.
Three days a week, Karen cycles about 7 km from Wilrijk to the office. Just like Ute, who comes from the same direction, she covers the distance quickly and comfortably with the help of her e-bike with Bosch engine. GZA Ziekenhuizen encourages cycling to work thanks to the bicycle allowance.
Upon arrival at work, Ute, Sebbe, Astrid, Karen and their colleagues Ann and Hilde take care of the communication for three campuses of GZA Ziekenhuizen: the Sint-Vincentius campus, the Sint-Augustinus campus and the Sint-Jozef campus. Ute is very welcome to strengthen the team. After all, a modern hospital communicates through all possible channels (brochures, events, magazines, press, digital communication, websites, social media, newsletters, information screens, etc.) about a wide range of subjects.
GZA Ziekenhuizen consistently focuses on exercise and sustainability, and is a loyal participant in the Bike to Work programme of Fietsersbond. The Spring Challenge, but also participation in the Antwerp 10 Miles and other active challenges encourage employees to keep moving.
